About SheIsHipHop
Dreams delayed are not dreams denied.
Born and raised in the Farragut and Fort Greene Housing Projects of Brooklyn, New York, Candis White—professionally known as SheIsHipHop—has spent her life turning adversity into purpose.
Raised by a single father in one of the most influential birthplaces of hip hop culture, Candis grew up inspired by legendary artists such as Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, Da Brat, DMX, and Tupac. Music quickly became more than entertainment—it became an outlet, a source of healing, and a way to make sense of the world around her.
At a young age, Candis discovered a gift for writing and began recording music while still living in Brooklyn. In 2003, she wrote a deeply personal song titled It's OK, inspired by the struggles of her childhood and the loss of her grandmother. The song earned her national recognition and a $10,000 scholarship through the BMG World of Expression Songwriting Competition, helping fund her college education and proving that her voice had the power to impact others.
But Candis' journey would not follow the traditional music industry path.
While many artists pursued fame full-time, Candis chose responsibility without abandoning her dream. She attended college, built a successful career in accounting and finance, and raised her daughter while continuing to write music, develop her craft, and pursue her purpose.
A proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and Rutgers University, Candis is also completing her MBA at Kennesaw State University, becoming a first-generation college graduate whose educational journey spans decades of determination, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Throughout her career, Candis has remained committed to empowering others. She founded DreamHouse Management Group to help aspiring artists understand both the creative and business sides of the entertainment industry. She later co-founded DreamHouse Make A Difference Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth, young adults, and families through mentorship, education, leadership development, and comprehensive support services.
In 2021, Candis produced the Youth & Entertainment Summit (YES), bringing together influential leaders from entertainment and sports—including Mathew Knowles, LaVar Ball, and other industry professionals—to educate families and young people about navigating careers in entertainment.
As a songwriter, Candis continues to receive recognition for her artistry and dedication to her craft. Most recently, she was named a recipient of the ASCAP In Her Voice Scholarship, further affirming her commitment to creating music that inspires people to pursue their dreams, overcome adversity, and discover their purpose.
Today, SheIsHipHop is more than an artist.
She is a songwriter, entrepreneur, speaker, mentor, nonprofit leader, and creator committed to helping others discover that their circumstances do not define their future.
Through music, media, mentorship, and service, she is building a movement for dreamers, creators, and world changers who refuse to give up.
Because every dream deserves a soundtrack.
And every story deserves to be heard.
